The topics to be presented in this course include aggregate application, sources, production, specifications, and identification of rock types and unsound materials. The course includes a full day of laboratory work doing sampling and splitting, coarse and fine aggregate gradations, specific gravities, spall content, and percent of crushed particles. While this is an introductory class, students are expected to have a workable knowledge of mathematics and be able to perform math functions on hand-held calculators. Certification will require completing the lab exercises and passing the open book examination with a score of at least 70%.
