CIP 28 – Pervious Concrete

Pervious concrete is a special type of concrete with a high porosity used for concrete flatwork applications that allows water from precipitation and other sources to pass through it, thereby reducing the runoff from a site and recharging ground water levels. Read more

Highway 494 & 694 paving project

This concrete paving project was performed by PCI Roads. Aggregate Industries supplied all the needed concrete aggregates for the paving from local sand and gravel operations. The materials achieved MnDOT’s incentive for well-graded aggregate as well as MnDOT’s full carbonate content incentive.  Read more


Mille Lacs Housing ICF homes project

The Mille Lacs Band Housing Authority builds 15 to 20 homes a year. It chose to build these two ICF homes, which look very much like the other wood-frame homes in the development, to track the energy performance and durability of ICF construction.  Read more

This report from Smart Growth America urges states to fix roads before they expand them. It says that Minnesota and other states are not dedicating enough of their highway budgets to repairing existing roads.  Read more 


Roseville Library project

This renovated library used concrete throughout its structure in creative ways. The project showcases the canvas that concrete provides. This building is now LEED Gold certified; 75 percent of its original structure was reused.  Read more 


Sam's Club & Walmart project

These two stores were built simultaneously in Sartell, Minnesota, involving a significant amount of regular and integral colored for the stores, sidewalks, curbs and gutters and also laid class 5 aggregate in and around the buildings and parking lot areas.  Read more


Superior Shores resort project

On Highway 61 just north of Two Harbors, this resort has had an exterior pool, hot tub, fire ring and patio area added as of summer 2010. The pool contractor did the concrete work which included shotcrete for a pool and hot tub along with decorative flatwork for the pool deck and fire ring area. The site constraints of working adjacent to an existing, fully operational resort during peak season called for extreme care in delivery and placement of concrete to minimize the disturbance at the resort.  Read more

What is a popout? A popout is a hole in a concrete surface left after an aggregate particle has expanded and worked itself loose. Read more
