Housing Upturn Will Be 'Solid' But 'Not Rapid'
Although housing conditions could start looking up by later this year, it will take several years, maybe not until 2011, for production to reach its average annual sustainable level of 1.85 million units (not counting an average 100,000 manufactured homes), NAHB Chief Economist David Seiders told the NAHB Executive Board on June 5. He made similar remarks to the full NAHB Board of Directors on June 9. The recovery will be slower than usual, he reported, because what the housing industry is experiencing "is like no other cycle we've ever had," Seiders said. |

The National Ready Mixed Concrete Association, the Portland Cement Association and the Aggregate & Ready Mix Association of Minnesota have teamed with Land Development Today magazine to offer the seminar Pervious Concrete—A Stormwater Solution at the Eagan Community Center on August 9, 2007. This seminar provides detailed instruction on pervious concrete pavement as a solution to reducing storm water runoff from building sites and other paved areas. Attendees learn the details of pervious concrete pavement systems, engineering properties and construction techniques. Bruce Ferguson, Franklin Professor of Landscape Architecture at the University of Georgia and Lionel Lemay, Senior Vice President of Technical Resources at the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association will be the "national voice" at the seminar while Dr. Kevin MacDonald, Vice President of Engineering Services at Cemstone Products Company and Jason Kruger, Pavement Engineer at the North Central Cement Council will present the "local" twist on the subject. Architects and engineers earn 6 Professional Development Hours upon completion of this program. This seminar is registered with the American Institute of Architects Continuing Education Systems. The registration fee is $245 (lunch included), $295 within 2 weeks of the seminar. | Building Excellence Awards - Begin Identifying Projects for Submission Now
Submission forms for the ARM Building Excellence Awards will be distributed in the next few weeks. Begin identifying projects NOW that you plan to submit for the awards. Take pictures while the grass is green and the skies are blue! Construction pictures are helpful in the judging process so get those cameras out today! New this year - A "Project of the Year" award has been added. One project will be chosen from amongst the First Place Winners from each category as being representative of greatness. Pay special attention to the Insulating Concrete Form category in both the Residential and Commercial areas. This year both categories will be split into "Large" and "Small" projects in order to allow "smaller" projects to compete against "smaller" projects instead of against some of the gargantuan entries of the past few years. We're leveling the playing field! Contact the ARM office for details about the Building Excellence Awards program. |
